With 832 hectares in production in 2021 – in 2006 there were 138, passing from 2.2 to 9.5% of the Grosseto vineyards – Vermentino is the first white grape variety in the province of Grosseto and represents over 50% of the Vermentino produced in the Grosseto area. whole Tuscany. The Vermentino Grand Prix involves sector technicians and starred restaurateurs from the Tuscan Maremma on the jury precisely because we start from the idea that, in order to launch the Maremma brand with all its facets, there is a need to create a system. “Wine, catering, hospitality are more successful if they enhance each other by enhancing the common denominator that is the territory. Only in this way can a story be told that it knows how to capture and only in this way can we start again after a particularly difficult moment, especially for these sectors”, explains Mazzei.

Therefore 67 wines proposed, different from each other according to the production area, according to the vinification methods used and according to the year. “Just over half of the wines presented come from the 2020 harvest and, like last year, there is no shortage of companies offering more mature Vermentini, sometimes aged in wood, cement, amphora, cocciopesto and among the various labels Vermentini in purity or in blend with other white grape varieties up to a maximum of 15% as required by the production regulations ”, explains the director of the Consortium Luca Pollini.
